Wenge (Milletia Laurentii)
Harvested in Western Africa and transported to Germany for processing into Hoffmann Hardwood Keys. The furniture-grade lumber is kiln dried to 8%-10% moisture content and machined on automated moulding machines for consistent results.
Our hardwood Dovetail Keys are popular as decorative elements in custom furniture, display cases and jewelry and cigar boxes as well as custom picture frames. They are also used as a “cover plugs” for plastic Dovetail Keys. For example, when joining 1” thick material with a 7/8” long routed keyway, a 1/2” plastic Key can be driven all the way in and covered with a 3/8” solid wood Key. Solid Hardwood Dovetail Keys are sold in 12” in lengths for easier shipping.
Please note that solid wood Dovetail Keys are by their very nature (end grain) not as strong as plastic Dovetail Keys and are recommended only as decorative elements and/or to cover plastic Keys. They should not be relied upon as the only fastener in a given joint.
Sample joints are advised to allow for the evaluation of grain, color and finished appearance.
